50th Anniversary of Perth Youth Orchestra
PLANS were announced yesterday for celebrations to mark the 50th Anniversary of Perth Youth Orchestra – pictured below.
An exhibition highlighting the orchestra’s achievements will be launched in June in Perth’s AK Bell Library, and is set to tour centres throughout Perth and Kinross over the coming year.
Anniversary plans will culminate in the July 2013 with the 50th Anniversary Tour.
The orchestra will be performing with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, playing at desks alongside the professionals, on Wednesday, June 6, as part of the Gannochy 75th Birthday Concert.
Members of the orchestra are also preparing a musical feast to give a royal welcome, to the new city of Perth, for the HM the Queen.
PYO President, Mr Andrew Mitchell told the PA: “A reunion orchestra is being set up for Saturday, September 22, together with a Dinner Dance in Perth Concert Hall. Among our many famous former members, opera star Donald Maxwell who played French Horn in PYO, will return to join us. Contacts are being made by the usual channels, the orchestra’s website www.perth-youth-orchestra .org.uk , by Facebook and Twitter @PyoPerth we urge players and friends from across the decades to get in touch with us.”
More details about the reunion can be learned at Monday’s Open Rehearsal, March 19, from 6-8.30pm in the North Inch Community Campus where families and friends are invited to an informal event where they can see the orchestra rehearse.
Committee members will be available to answer questions about the orchestra and the reunion plans.
