Young musicians from Perth and Kinross and Sistema Scotland in Stirling joined Nicola Benedetti to take part in a performance of Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending. Based on lines of a poem by George Meredith, Vaughan Williams composed his “pastoral romance for orchestra” prior to the outbreak of the First World War.
Taking up the rare opportunity to have contact with such an inspiring superstar, a group of keen players, including member of Perth Youth Orchestra, attended the Benedetti Session, instruments at the ready.
Having worked with the violinist to perfect their interpretation of the piece, the students went on to put what they’re picked up into a fabulous public performance.
Working with young musicians is a cause close to Benedetti’s heart, as she is a passionate advocate of the far-reaching benefits that music in education can bring.
